SOGAINI Decoded: Sakurao’s Hit Whisky, and a Magical Time on the Sakurao Distillery Tour (Hiroshima, Japan)
2026.10.05
In short: SOGAINI, the Japanese whisky from Sakurao Distillery in Hiroshima that’s all over social media, joins spirit matured by the sea at Sakurao and in the mountains at Togouchi — its bottle hides a cherry blossom, a clock and lines for mountains and waves. Plus the Sakurao Distillery tour’s warehouse projection mapping and a lucky self-bottling experience. By Mika Tanimoto, owner of Bar Little Happiness in Hiroshima.
“SOGAINI” — hardly a day goes by without seeing it on social media, and it has whisky fans’ eyes all to itself right now.
As a local Sakurao super fan, I can’t help talking about how amazing this bottle is.
Decoding the “Hiroshima design” hidden in the bottle
If you pick one up, please take a good long look at it.
This bottle is engraved with designs of Hiroshima scenes connected to Sakurao.
- The “cherry blossom” seen from above:
- Look down from the shoulder of the bottle, and there’s a beautiful cherry blossom.

- The “clock” on the cap:
- A symbol of the “time” of maturation spent in Togouchi and in Sakurao.

- The “mountains and waves” on the label:
- The upper line represents the deep mountains of Togouchi, the lower line the calm Seto Inland Sea waves of Sakurao.

Sakurao, in the south of Hiroshima, where a gentle sea breeze blows.
And Togouchi, in the north of Hiroshima, embraced by deep mountains.
Spirits raised in these two completely different climates meet in a single bottle.
No photos allowed: the “warehouse story” you taste with all five senses
Especially memorable on the Sakurao Distillery tour is the projection mapping inside the cool, hushed warehouse.
If you love immersive experiences like teamLab, I think you’ll adore this world.

Light projected onto the warehouse in the darkness, and a story that touches the heart.
The weight of the time whisky spends sleeping speaks to your eyes and ears — just picturing it makes me lose all my words, it’s so wonderful.
I’ll write about the content in another article!
A lucky “bottling experience” and a “lucky bag”
And on this day, unbelievably luckily, I came across a self-bottling experience where you fill SOGAINI spirit into a bottle yourself!

In fact, it’s the same experience that actor Sota Fukushi tried at the commercial launch event…!
It seems to happen at random, but if you come across it, it’s a god-tier event — you can assume you’ve used up that year’s luck.
And don’t miss the “lucky bag” (fukubukuro) on sale now.
What’s inside….
//////// Secret ㊙️
All I’ll say is that it’s “a great deal.”
If you go, grab one without hesitation!

Finally…
Honestly, I’d love to visit this wonderful space once a month… no, once a week.
But they all know my face by now (lol),
so to avoid being a nuisance, I’ve decided to go just once a year as a treat.
(My own rule makes an exception when I’m guiding someone, so fellow industry people who want to go on the Sakurao Distillery tour, please get in touch, lol)
Every encounter is meant to be. Welcome to the world of Rum&Whisky.
