2026: A Fateful Reunion with a Legendary Macallan — The Macallan 1824 Decanter MMXII
2026.10.05
In short: The Macallan 1824 Decanter MMXII (2012) — a duty-free-only release from Macallan’s 1824 Series, which defined whisky by natural colour and 100% sherry oak casks rather than age. Rich dried fruit, antique wood and spice. From Bar Little Happiness, Hiroshima.
“The Macallan 1824 Decanter – MMXII”
“MMXII” means “2012” in Roman numerals.
This bottle is an especially rare decanter model in the “1824 Series,” in which Macallan pursued the finest blends using “colour” as the standard.

■ The essence of the 1824 Series: “the art of colour” beyond age statements
Scotch whisky is usually valued by its age — “12 years,” “18 years.”
But the “1824 Series” brilliantly overturned that convention.
(It is a common idea today, but at the time it was a very novel approach.)
What Macallan pursued in this series was the ultimate blending, defined not by a number of years but only by “cask quality” and “natural colour.”
“100% sherry oak casks,” the heart of Macallan.
From these, the master distiller selected especially rare casks and, without any colouring, created a gradation using only the spirit’s natural glow.
Among them, this “MMXII (2012)” is the pinnacle that embodies the series’ philosophy.
Released only for a short time through the limited channel of duty-free shops, this bottle is a crystallisation of the “complexity” and “depth” of spirits at the peak of maturity.
It is no exaggeration to call it one of the most luxurious challenges in Macallan’s history, born of free blending unbound by numbers (age).
■ Tasting notes
Nose: Within the rich sweetness of dried fruit, a noble wood aroma like polished antique furniture, followed by the warm spice of cinnamon and ginger.
Palate: Silky smooth and full-bodied, with layers of raisins, dates and dark chocolate.
Finish: Very long, with sweet spice and a pleasant cask aroma.

■ The last two shots.
This bottle is a precious legacy that can never be obtained again.
And now (as of January 2026), it is about to come to an end, with only 1 or 2 shots left.
Truly “once in a lifetime.”
It is so rare that it hardly ever appears even at auction, so it cannot be restocked.
In 2026, please try it as “the ultimate glass” to mark a page of your life.
Every encounter is meant to be. Welcome to the world of Rum&Whisky.
