What Are Cadenhead’s Creations?
2026.10.05
In short: Cadenhead’s, Scotland’s oldest independent bottler (founded 1842), makes a “Creations” series that hides distillery names and labels each whisky by flavour, such as “Light Creamy Vanilla” and “Light Fruity Syrupy.” I explain what an independent bottler is and why choosing by taste is refreshing.
For anyone who has wondered, “The distillery isn’t written on this whisky bottle?”

“Huh? Which distillery is it?” “Isn’t whisky supposed to be single malt?”
Some of you may have thought that.
Today I’ll introduce this slightly mysterious whisky as simply as I can.
What Is an Independent Bottler?
First of all, “Cadenhead’s” is not a whisky distillery.
It is the name of an “independent bottler”: a company that selects whisky and bottles it.
It is the oldest independent bottler in Scotland, founded in 1842.
They buy spirit from all kinds of distilleries, and mature, blend, bottle and sell it themselves.
In other words, rather than “making it themselves,” they are craftspeople who “judge the perfect moment and bring it to the world.”
What Is “Creations”?
One of the series Cadenhead’s produces is this one, “Creations.”
It is a series that
- blends spirit from multiple distilleries,
- and, so that drinkers can choose by their own palate,
- deliberately hides the distillery names and so on:
puts the flavour itself in the spotlight.
For example, as shown on these labels:
- Light Fruity Syrupy
- Light Creamy Vanilla
These are categories of “what it tastes like.”
In a whisky world centred on place names and distillery names like “Glen-something,” the idea of choosing by taste is very fresh.
The bottles in the photo are:
“Light Creamy Vanilla 23 Years Old, 1993–2016”
and “Light Fruity Syrupy 31 Years Old 1987–2019,” both Cadenhead’s Creations.
Whisky Tastes Better When You Know Its Story
This whisky has no distillery name and no flashy label design.
But behind it, there is
- flavours made across distillery boundaries,
- an eye that sees the essence of whisky,
- and the joy of travelling the world guided by deliciousness.
A gentle proposal that stops whisky being “a hobby for people in the know,”
and lets you choose by “the deliciousness of a single sip.”
Even without a distillery name, it’s fine!
These are bottles you can choose by feel.
Every encounter is meant to be. Welcome to the world of Rum&Whisky.
